The Hotel Pousada de Sao

Tavira used to be a major
centre for tuna fishing, but a few years ago the catches declined and today
the industry has ceased.

Twenty-five kms southwest
of Sao Bras de Alportel is the coastal resort of Vilamoura. Here there
is a large marina surrounded by shops and bars. This is the place the locals
promenade in the evening.
There is also a casino and
some of the best golf courses in the country are in Vilamoura.
East of Sao Bras, the town
of Loule is a must for shopaholics. Its big Saturday market is sure to
provide something for everyone.
The town is an important
craft centre specialising in pottery, leather goods and copper ware. Take
a walk round the town, looking at the amazing number of individually decorated
chimneys, showing the artistic flair and imagination of the locals.
