Description
The magnificent Pousada of Queluz is located on a main square opposite the Queluz Palace which was the official residence of the Portuguese royal family from 1794. This luxury hotel in Queluz formerly housed the Royal Guards while resident at the Palace. It has been beautifully renovated, maintaining much of the building’s 18th century character.
The Hotel Queluz is well located for visiting Lisbon and for exploring the whole Lisbon coast. The Pousada’s restaurant, the Cozinha Velha (“Old Kitchen”) is located across the square from the Pousada in what were originally the Palace kitchens. This restaurant is exceptional and we highly recommend it for Portuguese regional cuisine.
The Hotel Dona Maria I has 26 rooms, including 3 superior rooms and 2 suites. All rooms have en-suite bathroom, air conditioning, minibar, hairdryer, safe, telephone, cable TV and internet access.

Location/Directions
Address:
Largo do Palácio Nacional
2745-191 Queluz
Surrounding area:
- Lisbon (14 kms): Europe’s second oldest capital city which oozes history and culture.
- Sintra (17 kms): A UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for its fairytale palaces, incredible vistas, and notable museum collections.
- Estoril (19 kms): A cosmopolitan coastal town which has maintained its somewhat faded grandeur. The picturesque beach of Tamariz is overlooked by a castle and has many cafes and bars. Behind the beach is the casino which was the inspiration for Ian Fleming’s James Bond and Casino Royal.
- Cascais (25 kms): A former fishing village, now a cosmopolitan beach town.
- Guincho (26 kms): The magnificent sandy Atlantic beach of Guincho has some of the best rollers in Europe – it’s a true paradise for surfers.
- Mafra (43 kms): When built, the gigantic Mafra Palace was intended to compete in magnificence and grandeur with Spain’s Escorial and St. Peter’s in Rome.
- Ericeira (52 kms): A charming fishing village with narrow streets, whitewashed houses, sandy beaches and excellent seafood restaurants.
three days in lisbon is plnety but if you don’t mind spending a couple more days in portugal, i recommend going to evora and to sintra as well, since you are in the area and all. both can be day trips but both are worth it. i can’t help with valencia or barcelona though.
Reception very, very good, the girl was so helpful and kind! The room was perfect, with a beautiful view on the National Palace, and we found fresh fruit and sweets waiting for us at the arrival, that was very nice. The hotel is nice, too, and the food at the breakfast was wonderful! The position of the hotel very good, you can reach it easily from the main road and from there you can reach lot of nice places in the sourroundings, as Lisbon, Sintra, Cascais, Estoril… Very good place to stay more than one day.
The location was very good, you can leave your car in the park and you find in the centre of Queluz the train for Lisbon centre; the room was ok, clean and big enough; the staff was helpful; we suggest the staff to check the breakfast and choose more natural things, like cakes, biscuits, marmelades and so on. Very nice place for visit Lisbon (the first time too) and also the district.
Reception staff was extemely helpful in accomodating our early arrival and in responding to our requests throughout our visit. Our room unfortunately did not have mini fridge. The restaurant across the street presented very good food and we enjoyed an excellent dinner.
