- Queluz (14 kms): The Palace of Queluz is Portugal’s finest example of Rococo architecture.
- Setubal (48 kms): An industrious fishing town with a charming old centre. It’s striking 15th century Gothic-Manueline Church of Jesus is recognised as the earliest example of Manueline architecture in Portugal and it was described by Hans Christian Andersen as ‘one of the most beautiful small churches I have ever seen.’

Although parts of the island are built up you can still find untouched, secluded sandy beaches. There is also an 18 hole Championship golf course and restaurants famous for their seafood.
