Description
Vila Gale Collection Tomar Hotel is the result of the conversion of two historic buildings in downtown Tomar, along the Nabao River—the former Santa Iria convent and the former girls’ school. Photos of the buildings before the restoration and renovation work are displayed in the hotel lobby, highlighting the extent of the work.
The two buildings are connected via a passage over Rua Santa Iria. Both spaces feature elegance and comfort, with touches of modernity while maintaining the most revealing aspects of the original architecture.
Near the Collection Tomar hotel is one of Portugal’s most important monumental complexes, the Convent of Christ and Castle of Tomar, both classified as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Other points of interest include the Convent of Sao Francisco, the unique Match Museum, the Mata Nacional dos Sete Montes, and the old Jewish quarter and synagogue.
The hotel’s decoration of public areas and hotel rooms is themed around the Order of the Templar knights, with numerous references to its history and connection to Tomar.
The hotel offers 100 spacious, comfortable and well-equipped rooms, some with views of the river, pool, and Tomar Castle. All rooms are equipped with Wi-Fi, air conditioning, cable TV, minibar, private bathroom, hairdryer, bathrobe and slippers. A kettle and coffee maker can be requested (subject to availability). Charming Hotel located in the centre of Tomar. We stayed in a nice room with a lovely view over the river and castle. We enjoyed breakfast and the spa, in particular the indoor pool. The hotel has a nice restaurant but there are also other restaurants nearby.
We hope to return and visit the castle and Convento de Cristo – we missed it this time.
