Opened in 2014, the Pousada Serra da Estrela stands out for its location and remarkable conversion to a mountain hotel. This luxury hotel in Serra da Estrela Natural Park, one of the most visited sites in inland Portugal, is located at a height of 1200 metres. Guests can enjoy the magnificent, dramatic views of the surrounding area whilst using the hotel’s excellent facilities.
This Pousada was built in the early 20th century and was a sanitorium for many years due to its location and the purity of the mountain air. It has been completely refurbished by award-winning architect Eduardo Souto Moura and now offers luxurious facilities, including a spa and indoor and outdoor swimming pools.
The Pousada Serra da Estrela hotel has 90 bedrooms, including 37 superior rooms, 2 spa bedrooms and 12 suites. There are also 2 rooms suitable for guests with limited mobility. All rooms have en-suite bathroom, air conditioning, hairdryer, flat screen TV, desk, telephone, mini-bar.
The Pousada is ideally located for exploring the Natural Park, and the many historical villages, castles and museums in the surrounding area. In winter months the landscape is covered in snow, ideal for skiing and snow boarding at the nearby ski resort. In spring, the snow gives way to lush landscapes with new tracks and places to discover.
