- Cascais (24 kms): A former fishing village, now a cosmopolitan beach town.
- Guincho (35 kms): The magnificent sandy Atlantic beach of Guincho has some of the best rollers in Europe – it’s a true paradise for surfers.
- Mafra (42 kms): When built, the gigantic Mafra Palace was intended to compete in magnificence and grandeur with Spain’s Escorial and St. Peter’s in Rome.
- Ericeira (54 kms): A charming fishing village with narrow streets, whitewashed houses, sandy beaches and excellent seafood restaurants.
- Queluz (14 kms): The Palace of Queluz is Portugal’s finest example of Rococo architecture.
- Setubal (48 kms): An industrious fishing town with a charming old centre. It’s striking 15th century Gothic-Manueline Church of Jesus is recognised as the earliest example of Manueline architecture in Portugal and it was described by Hans Christian Andersen as ‘one of the most beautiful small churches I have ever seen.’
- Troia (15 minute car ferry trip from Setubal): A stunning peninsula with 18kms of clean, soft sandy beaches, some of the cleanest in Portugal. Although parts of the island are built up you can still find untouched, secluded sandy beaches. There is also an 18 hole Championship golf course and restaurants famous for their seafood.
- Sesimbra (39 kms): A small fishing village overlooked by a Moorish castle. It has excellent beaches and seafood restaurants who serve the day’s catch of local fishermen.
- Arrabida National Park (40 kms): Stretching to the Atlantic Ocean, the park boasts a spectacular granite ridge and the area is a haven for wildlife. The Portinho de Arrabida, where the Park meets the Ocean, is a sheltered beach with crystal clear waters.
