  • Pousada of Braganca – Hotel Sao Bartolomeu

With spectacular views over the walled city, the Pousada of Braganca is the perfect base from which to explore this more remote area of Portugal

    Description

This modern, vibrant Hotel Braganca is set in some of the most rugged and spectacular rural landscapes in Portugal. From its hilltop position the Pousada Braganca has magnificent views over the city’s medieval castle. The hotel has excellent facilities including an outdoor swimming pool, a large terrace and a restaurant.

The Hotel Braganca has 28 rooms, including 15 superior rooms and 1 suite. All rooms have en-suite bathroom, heating/air conditioning, minibar, bathrobes, hairdryer, telephone, LCD TV and internet access. All rooms have private balconies which overlook Braganca castle, the medieval town or, rural surroundings.

The Hotel Sao Bartolomeu is a short walk from the town centre, which is steeped in history. The medieval walled town, which surrounds a 12th century keep and a 13th century council chamber, has remained virtually untouched for many centuries. It is the seat of the Royal House of Braganca who ruled Portugal from 1640 to 1910. Braganca also played an important role during the Spanish Inquisition by becoming a sanctuary for Jews fleeing Spain. The Jewish culture has significantly influenced modern day Braganca.

    Testimonials

4 testimonials for Pousada of Braganca – Hotel Sao Bartolomeu

    1. pleasant room with nice outlook.restaurant food and wine good and well priced with golden age deal.Staff very helpfull

    2. Loved Braganca and its charm and location. The pouadsa is rather modern but the views and staff make all the difference in the world. We had a fun stay with the staff and enjoyed delicious regional food. We had a large and modern room but with a spectacular view of the castle and village. A great place to explore off the beaten path. Very quiet and a nice walk to the medieval section of town. We enjoyed our stay in Braganca and what scenery !!!!

    3. We have just completed a 5 night tour of northern pousadas. I have to say overall the standard was very high. And the exceptionaly friendly helpful staff we experienced in all the pousadas helped to make our stay. We had breakfast and dinner at all the locations and i must say the food and the portuguese wine was delightful. It sounds a little picky to say the desert buffet in Braganca was dissapointing and the restaurant is ready for a little refurbishment but i suppose late october is a little out of season. overall Bravo!!

    4. An excellent place to stay. Very calm and peaceful, but within reasonable walking distance of the town centre. We enjoyed an excellent dinner in the restaurant. I do not think the price was too high considering the location, the nice, large bedroom and the excellent restaurant.
