Pousada in Viseu
The Pousada in Viseu is set in the former Saint Teotonio hospital, which was originally opened in 1842. On the facade, over the entrance of this imposing building, three statues, Faith, Hope and Charity, overlook the city.

In March 2007, works began to convert the former hospital into what is now the Pousada in Viseu.
In Viseu, Portugal, there is the Grao Vasco Museum, the cathedral and the Misericordia Church. Within easy access are the Serra da Estrela natural park and the famous Douro valley where grapes for Port Wine is produced.
Activities in the area include walking, horse riding and golf at montebelo course.
Festivities in the area include the Viriato Music festival and the Sao Mateus fair which is held between August and September and is one of the best known regional Summer fairs in the country attracting thousands of visitors.
Below are some comments of guests who recently stayed in Pousada in Viseu.

We seaytd at two pousadas in Portugal, 10 days in Palmela and 3 in Alcaser during September 2011.Both were good, and of the two we would rate Palmela higher for the ambience and the warmth of the staff. We were made to feel at home by everyone, right from the time we checked in late in the evening, despite their disadvantage with English. Some, like Raquel and Miguel went the extra mile in helping us with the locale and other bookings. The food was no doubt excellent, but pricey compared to food in the village that was as good in quality. A more reasonable pricing would perhaps attract outside customers as well, since the dining hall was rarely even half full. The breakfast was excellent. We suggest that all pousadas provide some basic amenities that are taken for granted all over the world: free internet, free coffee &tea in the room with water heaters, and common washer/driers for longer term passport users. These cost very little more to provide and leave the customer more satisfied. The pousadas, especially with the passport scheme for seniors, seem to be well kept secret known mainly within Europe. Asia could be a great market if marketed well.
A great stay in a wonderful building. Close to everything. Staff helpful.
We stayed for one night (29th August 2010) at the Pousada at Viseu and had an excellent time. We stayed in one of the superior rooms on the 4th floor, and had dinner in the restaurant. The quality throughout was excellent – the bedroom was spacious, the view was expansive, the dinner was superb.
Viseu is a pretty little town, easy to walk around with some interesting architecture and good shops. The Pousada has been created from the old hospital in a very sympathetic manner … throughout the Pousada there are photographs of the restoration work in progress, which are both decorative and intersting.
This is really an exceptionally high quality place to stay, and we can thoroughly recommend it.
I stayed at the Pousada Viseu for two nights over Christmas 2009. Driving from Porto I had difficulty finding the place as it is not as well sign-posted as other Pousadas. On arrival I was met by a very helpful receptionist who took care of the luggage while I parked the car in the ample parking space. The bedroom was quite large and most comfortable. There is a good view from the large window towards the north over the town in the direction of the cathedral. It was very quiet all the time. The staff were always respectful and helpful. The service and food quality in the dining room was good for all meals. The location is good for walking about the town with the cathedral ten minutes away. There is a Spa which is well equipped and I made good use of it. Highly recommended.
