What a wonderful place to spend Hallowe’en Night–Yes we stayed in this pousada on October 31st, 2011! We felt like we had travelled back in time to the 12th century. We were in awe of the wonderful restoration that had been done to this building–now with all the modern conveniences but still giving the ambience of a very old monastery. We found the staff most welcoming and accommodating. We especially enjoyed the view from every window which overlooked a peaceful cloister. This was a memorable overnight stay nearing the end of our Fall vacation in northern Portugal.
The staff, service, food and ambiance were all wonderful at Amares. We really enjoyed our visit.

Thank you very much to advance the breakfest for the group at 7.30 am. (8.00 am is a bite late for touring¨, almost for swiss people!)
This pousada was beautifilly restaured and very comfortable. The water supply, however could stand improving as it took a long time to get hot water to the room, a situation that had been known by the staff for some time. Also, we regret not being able to see inside the church as it is only open during services on Sunday, a situation, however, that is not under the control of the pousada.
The restoration of the monastery is an architectural masterpiece. The atmosphere is unique, the restaurant and the food is incredible. Cant wait to come back.
Fantastic pousada! Very wide, beautiful building and garden! The restaurant was excellent! The service in the restaurant was superb!
We would return immediately if we could!
