Pousada in Alvito

Pousada in Alvito – Hotel Castelo de Alvito

The Pousada of Alvito is the result of a restoration of an unusual 15th century castle. The castle is presented as a building of military architecture and residence, where is possible to identify Islamic gothic and manuelina influences.

Pousada in Alvito
The Pousada is a historic luxury hotel that honours the culture of the region, not only by its atmosphere, but also by its traditional gastronomy and wines. What used to be the agricultural land of a medieval castle, is now a superb garden.

Being the Pousada fans that we are , it was exciting to stay in a castle ! The staff were warm and helpful and we found the accommodation comfortable . ALthough the bedroom was small, the view was magnificent from the castle walls overlooking the courtyard. The bed was very comfortable for sleeping and yes the bathroom was old but hey you are afterall in a castle !!! It was fine, truly . Memorable meal in the dining room, breakfast standard pousada fare but tasty. Loved the peacocks who posed for pictures and were not fearful of humans. Nice grounds to explore with the fresh scent of orange trees. Quaint village outside with breathtaking scenery of the alentejo. A beautiful spot to stay with plans to return. It was great to experience the countryside and the wonderful local people only to happy to help with a smile ! Loved it and kudos to all the helpful staff.

This was the only Pousada we did not really care for as the room was pretty outdated and uncomfortable; the restaurant service was poor (although the chef was good).

The front desk people were very pleasant and helpful as at all the Pousadas that we visited.

We stayed here for two nights in early September 2011. The hotel is beautiful and the rooms are very spacious, although the bathroom fittings were well past their sell by date – the shower was hopeless.
The reception staff were very helpful, but we found the restaurant staff a little chaotic – for example, whist in the middle of giving my order, the waiter just walked off without saying anything, returning a few minutes later.
We like to eat in local restaurants but the only two restaurants in town were closed for holidays. Alvito is quite an attractive little town but there is really nothing to interest the tourist in the town.

We loved this Pousada and hope to return. We stayed for 2 nights in June 2011. There was nothing we didn’t like, or could find fault with, it was just perfect. One of the Peacocks had babies, so sweet! The town is lovely as well. Staff were all helpfull, room was lovely. The windows were a real feature if you like old buildings, which we do.

We visited in March of 2011. We had a wonderful stay in Alvito and the Pousada. The tourist office was very helpful as was the staff of the Pousada.

    We recommended it highly!

We visited in Nov 2009 as part of a tour of the Alentejo. It was a quiet time but the staff were very helpful and courteous. The accommodation was excellent.
