  • See & Do: Azores

Our beautiful and historic Pousadas of Portugal are the absolute perfect place to call home whilst partaking in your personal Portuguese adventure. The volcanic islands of the Azores are one of Europe’s most outstanding areas of natural beauty with a plethora of vineyards, wildlife and nature to go out, uncover and discover.

Much like with the previous blogs regarding Lisbon and The Algavre in our See & Do series, we want to provide you with a list of the top attractions of the region and deliver to you a list of the ‘must-dos’ that the area boasts.

    Caldeira das Sete Cidades

Walking path to the lakes of Sete Cidades, Azores, Portugal

Caldeira das Sete Cidades is an area of unrivalled natural beauty with some of the most spectacular and paradisiacal landscape that you could ever wish to dream of. Translated as Caldera of the Seven Towns, the town is part of legend whereby seven towns which were founded by expelled bishops sank in this magnificent crater, believed to have been caused during a prehistoric eruption. Whilst the area is a must visit for people of all ages, the hike could become challenging for the older or younger travellers. Although, those willing to undergo the trek – treat yourself to a picnic and sip in the landscape.

    SeaBottom

A trip for the holiday goer looking for a more relaxed experience, SeaBottom is perfect for any traveller who remembered to pack their sea-legs. Visit the remains of the Dori and view the spectacular marine life and seabed that the islands have to offer with this fantastic glass bottom boat. The boat will take you on a spectacular tour, enabling you to view some tremendously breath-taking scenery around the coast of the island.

    Lagoa do Fogo

Lagoon of Fire, Azores - Panorama

Translated as Lagoon of Fire, Lagoa do Fogo is a lake within the crater of the Água de Pau Massif stratovolcano. Due to the construction restrictions placed on the area by the Portuguese government, the area remains practically untouched and is perfect for those wanting to experience Azores at its most honest and free. With easier access than Caldeira das Sete Cidades, Lagoa do Fogo allows you to more casually enjoy the natural beauty of the area; you can even take a dip if you are feeling the heat!

There are so many stunning scenes to witness during your stay in Azores, with many tours to help guide you around them and show you the highlights. However, as we always say, if you truly want to experience the culture of the place, go out and discover it for yourself; you quite literally never know what you might find!

After all that adventuring, our luxurious locations are the perfect place for you to create a base camp for you and your fellow travellers. So, if you would like to speak to one of our friendly team with regards to an enquiry, or to simply discuss our services, please don’t hesitate to call. You can contact us on 0871 218 1751, where we will be eagerly awaiting your call.
