  • Pousada de Viana do Castelo – Hotel Monte de Santa Luzia

This early 20th century Pousada Viana Do Castelo offers one of the most famous views in Portugal

    Description

Spectacular Views with the Hotel Viana Do Castelo

The Hotel Viana Do Castelo, also known as Hotel Monte De Santa Luzia, set high on Mount Santa Luzia, combines early 20th century elegance with spectacular views over the old sailing port of Viana do Castelo and Portugal’s Atlantic coast with its long sweep of sandy beaches. The view from the Pousada, with the temple of Santa Luzia in the foreground, is one of the most famous in Portugal.

The National Geographic magazine wrote ‘Santa Luzia is blessed with one of the world’s finest panoramas, perhaps bettered only by those of Funchal and Rio de Janeiro, both in Portuguese speaking countries’.

Pousada Hotel Viana Do Castelo & Monte De Santa Luzia

This beautifully furnished Hotel Monte De Santa Luzia has a number of interesting artefacts commemorating the Roman invasion of Portugal. The Pousada Vina Do Castelo is also surrounded by the remains of an old Celtic village inhabited from around 2000 BC to 500 AD, shortly after the Roman invasion.

The Pousada Hotel Viana Do Castelo has excellent facilities including a palatial lounge area, elegant bar and excellent restaurant serving gourmet regional and international cuisine, all flanked by a large terrace which benefits from wonderful views of Santa Luzia and the town beyond.

      Testimonials

highly recommended. Worth of every penny.

we stayed in this pousada one night at the end of June. We recommend it as a worthwhile choice first of all for its location. We had a comfortable room with a wonderful view over the river, town and the beautiful church of Santa Luzia. Efficient and attentive staff. Don't miss the funicular from the pousada down the mountain to the city of Viana. Not far from Viana we visited Valencia near the Spanish border and Guimaraes, both worth the drive. We had a very pleasurable stay!

The pousada was quite beautiful, and the view from our room was just like the pictures from the website. The a.c. worked fine and the staff was friendly and helpful, and drinks on the terrace are not to be missed. The pool is a disappointment because it is at least 300 yards away from the hotel and was dirty and no one was using it. We went down to the beach instead. We enjoyed our stay very much.
