Located in Salvador da Bahia
Brazil, this is the first Pousada to open outside Portuguese territory.
It opened in 2005 and offers
superb accommodation, it is also the largest Hotel in the Pousada group.
The group has completely
renovated and refurbished this 17th Century Covent as part of a wider project
for the recovery of the town’s centre.
The Convent had a role in
some of the historical events that took place in Salvador such as the Dutch
invasion and Bahia's independence.
The town of Salvador was
founded in 1549 and for 214 years was capital of Brasil. Its historic
centre has UNESCO Cultural heritage status.
Due to its strategic location
and environment, the Bay in Salvador was for many years a secure port for
Portuguese sailors.
Salvador is also known as
the town of the "365 churches" and was the inspiration for the famous writer
Jorge Amado. It is also famous for its happy, friendly people and
its many festivities.
There are many interesting
sights and monuments from Portuguese Colonial days such as the Sao Bento
Monastery, the Modern Art museum, the Jorge Amado Foundation and
City museum.
Next to the Pousada there
is a Convent and a Museum with over 1,500 exhibits.
The accommodation comprises
a total of 79 beautifully furnished bedrooms including 9 Junior Suites,
9 Loft Suites and 1 Master Suite.
All rooms have ensuite bathroom
and are air conditioned.
They also have plasma television
with cable channels, minibar, digital safe, 2 line telephone, work desk,
hi-speed internet connection, Egyptian cotton linen, pillow menu, turndown
service and private check in and out with welcome drink.
If reserving one of the suites
the valet will pack and unpack your luggage.
Because the Pousada is a
restored 17th Century historic building, the dimensions of the bedrooms
are not uniform however, they all have the same very high level of quality
and comfort.
The Pousada has its own Chapel
and facilities include reading room, family games, library, swimming pool,
spa with jacuzzi, sauna and fitness centre.
At certain periods during
the day refreshments are served near the pool area. Refreshing towels are
also provided.
The Pousada also has a bar
and a restaurant serving international cuisine.
There is a Business Centre
and 3 fully equipped, private meeting rooms. The largest has a maximum
capacity of 70 persons.
There is also an "open air"
area for hosting social events.
For recreation, the area
near the Pousada is renowned for its beautiful beaches.
