Originally a 19th Century Palace, the Pousada Sao Vicente is in Braga, Portugal
This is the latest addition to the famous Pousada Group Hotels and was formerly the Hotel Quinta das Infias.
Originally a 19th Century Palace with a private chapel, it has been beautifully converted and restored and retains many of the original features.
It is delightfully furnished, with great attention being paid to detail.
The Pousada is located within walking distance of the historic centre of the city of Braga, the country´s ecclesiastical centre.
Braga is one of the oldest cities in Portugal and was founded by the Romans in 27 BC. It was also an important Visigothic bishopric before its occupation by the Moors.
The city has a reputation for being a bastion of reactionary politics.
It was here, in 1926, that the military coup leading to Salazar's dictatorship was launched, while in the more times, following the 1974 revolution, the Archbishop of Braga personally incited a mob to attack local Communist offices.
While in the area, take the time to visit the Bom Jesus church, one of the country's most beautiful Baroque creations. The view from the temple is truly magnificent.
Pousada Sao Vicente has a total of 26 bedrooms comprising 11 standard bedrooms, 6 superior rooms, 7 executive bedrooms and 2 suites. All have private bathroom, double glazed windows, Cable television, direct dial telephone, radio, safe and hair dryer.
The Superior bedrooms are located in the old wing and there maybe noise from the roundabout which is near this area.
The standard rooms are in the new wing.
On the ground floor there are elegant lounges with very comfortable seating and a bar, with doors leading onto an outside terrace which overlooks the pool.
Facilities include restaurant, bar, air conditioning, elevator, non smoking rooms, swimming pool, tennis court, squash and car park.
Pousada Sao Vicente offers conference facilities, including a meeting room with capacity for 100 people.
The Pousada is approximately 54 kilometres from the fascinating city of Oporto and 42 kilometres from the delightful old sailing town of Viana do Castelo.
There are a few golf courses just a short distance from Braga.
For those interested in nature, the Peneda-Geres, Portugal’s only National Park is approximately 36 kilometers away.
Porto International airport is approximately 58 kilometers away.
