The Pousada is beautiful, the surroundings too. The atmosphere is calm and relaxing. We only stayed one night, unfortunately but I can recommend the hotel to couples, singlers and families. But small children might be considered to disturb the calmness of the convent.

While the Pousada is a bit off the beaten track, it is well worth the effort. The location is beautiful and the facilities wonderful. My only regret is that we were only able to stay one night.

We stayed at the Pousada in September '10 and the hotel made the holiday for us.
The Pousada is a beautiful building and has a relaxed atmosphere and is of a high standard.
The room we had was spacious and very comfortable with a lovely bathroom, although there could have been more wardrobe/drawer space. The balcony overlooked the pool, vineyard and mountains with beautiful views.
The swimming pool is large enough for serious swimmers and we also made use of the tennis court and pool table. The restaurant was very enjoyable but pricey for an evening meal. The breakfast was excellent.

We visited Viseu and Guarda and some of the smaller towns but of course the shops in most places, even the large cities, close between 12.30 - 3.00 !
If you want to go to the beach we found that the towns and beaches between Coimbra and Leira were lovely.
Local restaurants speak little English and quite often don't have menu's so best to take a Portuguese dictionary if you speak no Portuguese ! They also have predominantly meat on the menu's so if you are a non meat eater you may have to stick to omlettes.
In short, the scenery is beautiful, the Pousada is the best place to stay and the food is good. But learn some Portuguese before going as English is not widely spoken.

This location is amazing! Great for a week long stay in the summer. The countryside is beautiful and the pousada is spectacular. The decorations from the convent are exceptional and the chapel itself is unique and outstanding. The food was excellent, even if the wine was a bit over priced. The rooms were large (and we had the smallest room) and the staff was helpful and friendly. I would highly recommend this pousada to any sort of traveller -- family, couple, single.
