This historic pousada hotel in Tavira is ideal for those who want to spend their holidays in Portugal, either summmer either a weekend long break.

We spent two nights at Tavira during Oct 2011.We were very impressed with the standard of the Pousada and thought the staff were excellent. As “Passport” visitors we were obviously not in the best rooms but the one we had was perfectly good. I was a little disappointed about the limitations of the WIFI offered but it is a small criticism in what was otherwise a very enjoyable experience.
Our forth stay at this our favourite Pousada, as usual the reception was was friendly, efficiant and helpful as were all the staff that we dealt with.
Our room was well positioned with a pleasing view from the balcony over the pool and remnants of the old city wall and was a good size, well fitted out and nice and clean.
The meal we had at the resturant was expensive but memourably good and the service was excellant.
The seating areas around the cloisters were pleasent and relaxing giving a wonderful start to a much needed holiday.
Difficult to make a negative comment
Nice stay. Surprised no free wifi to residents.
Fabulous stay. The restaurant was great and the service attentive. we had 2 Cachaca in the bar which had a great ambiance. I would mind the nine euro price but one would have expected free wifi. In fact we spent much time at bars in the town where there is free wifi. Whoever makes the decision to ration the wifi needs to ask themselves how many drinks at nine euro a time are we missing out on selling? Nice stay but wrong business decision! We come back to Portugal every year and this was our first time in a pousada. We will try another next year but I would expect to see the wifi included. Its not even the cost that annoys its the hassle and the pettiness. Its like charging extra for sugar in the coffee!
We stayed for a week, the door to the veranda did not close properly, this was eventually rectified. The staff were all polite and helpful, but we were very disappointed with the cleanliness of the room. It was not cleaned fully on a daily basis, the rug had sand and ants, tops of furniture not cleaned fully.
Even worse my wife had numerous bites!!!.
Would we visit again…..NO
We stayed one night en route from Faro to Andalucia and were extremely impressed by the Pousada. The staff were all friendly, helpful and polite and the accommodation was excellent. The building itself has been beautifully restored and the atmosphere is very peaceful and calming. Breakfast was very good. The Pousada really merited a longer stay than we were able to schedule. We shall certainly visit again.
We were delighted with our stay at the Pousada da Graca. The staff is first class, full of charm and very helpful. Food excellent- what more can one say.Certainly it is worth another visit.
We were delighted with our stay Pousada Convento da Graca. The food was sumptuous and the staff excellent. It is a young staff with lots of professionalism and charm.I agree with previous comments that bar prices are expensive and these should be revised with a view to encouraging guests to partake. The Pousada is ideally situated and the centre of Tavira is but a whisk away.We would be delighted to pay another visit when circumstances allow.
A beautiful building. We were greeted by a charming receptionist who swept us up a magnificent staircase to very attractive a room overlooking the pool. Sadly the atmosphere of ths building needs a little tweeking. Why on earth was a modern inappropriate figure of a naked woman placed in the centre of the courtyard? A traditional fountain surrounded by orange and lemon trees in terracotta urns would have softened the area and made the restaurant more appealing. Like Estoi finding staff to order food and drink was difficult.
Our visit to the Pousada Convento da Graca was thoroughly sucessful and enjoyed. The entire building was delightful, our room ideal, the staff very helpful and pleasant. Breakfast was excellant with so wide for choice.
I have to say, however, that we were disappointed with the charges in the bar.
We do hope to return to the Tavera Pousada and, hopefully, visit other Pousadas.
We had an excellent stay at the Pousada da Graca. The welcome and service was friendly and efficient, the room was well pleasant and clean and the breakfast excellent. Nothing to be faulted. The little town was very pleasant too; a bit of a shame about the touts trying to shunt people into the English/Indian restaurants across the old bridge but this was easily avoided.
After 13 nights in Convento da Graça we have the best memories of the location, the building, the staff, the room and the food. This was our third Pousada-holidays, and being in one place for such a long time was an experiment, that appeared to be a success. Tavira and its surroundings stretching (for us) from Vilamoura in the West to Sevilla in the East are beautiful and interesting. And of course the Natural Park Formosa da Rua over such a long end along the coast. Tavira’s Pousada is the perfect centre for a wonderful stay!
We really loved the Pousada Convento da Gracia. It is a beautiful building, the original features have been restored and sit very well alongside tasteful decor and comfortable furnishings. The staff were helpful and friendly and the food was very good. When we stayed in October the pool area was quiet and a great place to drink an extra cup of coffee after breakfast. It would be the “icing on the cake” if the pool was heated by just a few degrees.
We would definitely recommend this hotel.
We spent three nights at the Convento da Graca in september 2010.This was our first stay at a Pousada Hotel and our expectations were very high in view of some of the reviews we had read.We had booked a superior room in order to get the most out of our stay.Well, our expectations were exceeded throughout our stay from the time we arrived to our departure.Great location in the lovely town of Tavira, friendly staff, fantastic food, nice room very well equipped, clean , quiet with a good location in the hotel, and lovely grounds. Overall, it was a superb experience.I stongly recommend this hotel as base from which to visit the region .
The Pousada is perfect for a quiet holiday. It inspires serenity. Clean and neat, it blends with the perfect weather at this time of the year. The room was a bit small, but comfortable. Food and service were also good, always done with a smiling staff. Champagne by the pool at sunset is recommended, maybe a background music will add some warm ambiance. Location is perfect to stroll down to the center for a walk, all attractions are nearby. We’ll be back.
We loved the Convento da Graca– it is a beautifully renovated hotel, keeping the old charm with its courtyard and surrounds: great room and helpful staff, not to mention a nice quiet location in Tavira
Outstanding, room, food, and Staff. We had 9 nights, and did not want to leave. We will be back very soon.
our second visit to this beautiful old building and the staff were just as good as last time, lovely room and fantastic selection of food at breakfast(having read other comments we will try dinner next time. There were not many people around and the bar was empty at night which was a shame, some kind of entertainmant might encourage people to visit it.
as the weather was not very good we did not use the pool this trip.
the car park was a bit of a squeeze with some guests taking two spaces!!!
it is in a very good position for exploring Tavira town(though it was very hard to find the 1st time we stayed!and I hope we can visit again before too long.
golden age passports very good value

Stayed in the pousada 13/05/2010 ,had a geat time . The service and food was impeccable , our bedroom overlooked the pool area room number 8 and was immaculate throughout ,linen and towels changed evry 2 days The staff could do enough to help , booking taxis and trips and the day of departure, the recectionist took his car to take our suitcases down to our coach on route to the airport
We greatly enjoyed a whole week at the Pousada. It is a beatiful place, perfectly situated in this lovely old town. The staff were friendly and efficient – at the reception, in the restaurant, in the bar. The restaurant was beautifully furnished and equipped and the breakfasts absolutely marvellous. We had three of our dinners and one lunch at the pousada. The food was good and the staff extremely nice and helpful. Our room was rather small and had no view, but it was completely quiet and peaceful with a wonderful large bed and in every way very well eqiupped, and with a small balcony.
A wonderful week – we hope to be back.
We stayed in November 2009 at the Convento da Graca on our way home and had an outstandingly good impression of the pousada. The hotel as the name suggests, is a renovated convent with bags of character and history.
The reception staff were very welcoming and friendly and spoke excellent English. We were given a beautiful room overlooking the gardens at the front. Very clean and quiet, the room had a very large and comfortable bed and was very well appointed.
The restaurant staff were also very helpful and put themselves out to make us feel welcome; they ensured we received a discount for being Golden Age guests. We had a top quality meal at a very reasonable price considering the standard of the hotel.
The town centre is literally a stone’s throw away and is pleasant for a stroll.
Just one small point, we thought that for a hotel of this category, the wireless internet should have been complimentary. A computer terminal was available for guests, but this needed a serious overhaul as it was full of viruses; the antivirus installed was well out of date.
Nevertheless, we can thoroughly recommend this pousada and hope to be able to stay longer next time.
Our second visit, this time November 09, all our good memories were comfirmed.
All the staff from reception, bar and dining room and cleaning ladies all friendly, cheerful, discrete and very, very good and efficient.
The room and public areas were well equiped and relaxing and the dining room was welcoming and presents excellant meals.
The Golden Age offer made things even better and the booking staff made sure that we had the best deal available.
The hotel is also well positioned in this friendly laid back town.
Will we come again? you bet we will
We stayed in early October for 5 nights and absolutely loved the place. Very relaxing, lovely surroundings and excellent service.
Great value for money especially if using the Pousada Passports – made the restaurant affordable.
splendid breakfast!
We will definitely be back next year
We stayed at the Convento da Graca for the night of 19/6 before moving into an apartment in Tavira for a 2 1/2 week stay. We received a very warm welcome at the Pousada, which lived up to our expectations. The staff were excellent and the Pousada was very relaxing place to stay in. It is situated close to the town where there are many bars & restaurants. We enjoyed our time so much that we are considering a return visit next year.
We very much enjoyed our stay.
The accommodations were first rate, the staff was friendly and helpful and it was easy to walk everywhere in Tavira.
One of our best pousada experiences in Portugal.
Our stay was most enjoyable.
As with all the other pousadas the accomadation, food and service were first class.
The staff were friendly and very helpful.
Did not appreciate the imitation flowers/plants in bedroom, but I guess that is a personal thing.
Loved the building and the archaeological site.
Well done
The Convento de Graca was a wonderful find. A beautiful hotel in a lovely location. Very friendly staff welcomed us and made us very comfortable with our 15 month old daughter. As well as providing the usual cot, we were actually encouraged to use the restaurant with the baby and the staff were very interactive with her.
We had a small problem with the air conditioning in our room and whilst it was a little frustrating to be told it was working when it was not, we were moved to another room with working air con. The receptionist on duty was alone and handled the situation very well.
I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone – with or without children.
We greatly enjoyed our stay at the Convento da Graca in Tavira. A very friendly and helpful young man greeted us, and was always very willing to help in whatever way he could. Likewise the rest of the staff. Our bedroom overlooked the front of the hotel, with a small balcony, but apart from the roadworks whilst we were there creating a lot of noise (!!) when they had gone for the day, it was very peaceful. The restaurant was excellent – easily on a par with top London restaurants, the location of the hotel perfect (just a short walk into town) and a lovely bar for relaxing in after dinner. We have stayed in a few Pousada hotels, and this was certainly among the best.
Lovely Pousada by far the best we have visited. Staff is extremely helpful and the town is charming. The design of the Pousada is also lovely. We definately will return for another visit.
We had a wonderful week in Convento da Graca. The convent is beautiful, with tastefully furnished rooms and lots of space. The restaurant serves very good food, and a healthy breakfast. The best thing though was the friendly staff.
We had our grandchild 3 years old traveling with us, and both the hotel and Travira was very friendly to him and us. The childrens room could be updated a bit, needs a bit of new toys, but the pool for small children and the service around families with children could not be better.
The breakfasts were great, lots of fruit and hot dishes as well, and we also enjoyed a delicious dinner during our stay. The tourist menu was excellent. (Includes wine, couvert, soup etc.)
We were greeted by a friendly young man who spoke excellent English. He gave us a tour of the Pousada and showed us to our room. Also showed us how everything operated. The bedroom was lovely, very clean, modern, and tastefully decorated. We had a nice basket of fruit and water every day during our stay. The view from a lovely little balcony was overlooking the castle . The public rooms, including the bar, living room (which had a working computer) was very homey. The Pousada was quiet and peaceful in the evening. The location was very central, we could walk everywhere. There was a church nearby, and a short walk to the town square. The restaurants were mostly located across the river, which was very close. We visited the cafes near the Pousada and there were lots of nice little shops to browse in. All in all, a ten out of ten. We would highly recommend this place to our friends, and will definetely stay there again .
Our second visit to Convento da Graca in late Feb 2009 was every bit as good as in 2008. Excellent friendly staff, nice room and great breakfast. The dinner menu was varied and well presented. We even dropped in for lunch on our way to the airport before flying home!
Well we splashed out on our tour of the Pousadas and had the suite and could not fault in any way. The location, helpful staff, good food and the way in which you were right near the centre of Tavira made for an unforgettable stay in late February
Thanks for the opportunity to comment. We all were very impressed with the Pousada Convento da Graca the rooms were excellant, nice, warm and clean, and a very big bed. The restaurant and the food very good. the staff all very helpful and spoke good English
All in all a very good experience, especially for the time of the year, January .
