Pousada in Setubal
Pousada in Setubal – Hotel Sao Filipe
Sao Filipe’s historical Pousada is installed in a fort from the late 17th century built by King Philip II of Spain (Philip I of Portugal). This historic luxury hotel has a breathtaking view over the River Sado estuary from its terrace.

Beside the terrace, Pousada in Setubal counts with several other attractions, such us a bar, a living room for social encounters, a small gambling room and a dining room.
Regarding the city of Setubal, it is one of Portugal’s main ports, also offers beautiful walks within the historic.

We enjoyed every minute of our stay in Setubal, staff were charming and helpful, the rooms delightful, and the views spectacular. Breakfasts were most enjoyable. My only gripe is a typical British one in that whereas we are used to hot meals on hot plates at dinner here at home that is not so common in Portugal, ( and Spain!) where they are often only luke warm. The quality and the service were first class however.
We have become great admirers of Pousadas and will continue to work our way around Portugal until we have visited most, if not all , of them.
Spectacular! Views and castle itself. Odd smells at times probably expected in such a beautiful old building. Staff welcoming, efficient and strong (luggage up many steps). Meals and service good. We could not really have asked for better.
Pousada – Setubal
We stayed here for 3 nights over Christmas. Stunning location and buildings.
The staff couldn’t have been more helpful, meeting us when we arrived in the dark. I really cannot praise enough the professional and dignified service that we received. We couldn’t have asked for more.
The room was lovely, spacious, gorgeous views, pleasant decor and comfy beds.
This was our first visit to a Pousada, we shall definitely be returning.
The last of our 4 Pousadas on this holiday and again no disappointment. Stunning location and the Castle is quite different to nearby Palmela. The staff at Palmela rang ahead to try and ensure we had a good room. It was great with a full balcony window/door which overlooked Setubal and the Sado Estuary. The outside terrace with its canopy is a great asset and a lovely place to sit out and admire the view. The Castle which is integral to the Pousada should be fully explored as there are stunning views in all directions.
The staff again very helpful, particularly when our trip to see the Dolphins had to be cancelled and rearranged. Dining room also blessed with excellent views etc.
Travelling light here would be helpful as it is a long haul from car to room and numerous stairs.
It is a beautifukl site and we had a highly memorable stay. I give it a TEN!
The 6 nights we spent in Pousadas were enjoyed, the staff
always very pleasant, meals and accomodation very good. The atrocious
weather greatly limited our activities.
Sao Felipe, the chapel and ramparts were impressive though we
were really overcharged for a phonecall to Switzerland. One suggestion
from us is to provide more information in english and when there are
more visitors, perhaps english or american newspapers, not easily found
in most places we stayed.
Our best wishes for an upturn in Portugal’s economy and a good season
for the Pousadas which we shall certainly recommend, though not in winter!
We were welcomed and shown to comfortable rooms and immediately went to the small lounge for a relaxing coffee and drink. The restaurant also has welcoming and friendly staff and a good menu which offers beautifully cooked meals.Breakfasts were another highlight.
The hotel has wonderful panoramic views across the bays and town below. It is a peaceful and relaxing place to unwind and enjoy the fabulous views. The old town centre behind the main esplanade provides pleasant shopping and historic churches to wander.
We found Setubal a good point to begin a two day drive around the coastal towns to the lovely city of Faro.
Caros Senhores
Sirs,
Location is gorgeous; your staff extremly helpful and kind;we have spent only one night in your pousada and were satisfied with everything.
Only, carrying the suitcases up from the parking lot to our bedroom? We were sorry for the gentleman who had to help us; we know that the pousada is the historical monument, but building a pathway on the side would not damage it(like for the disabled travellers) as all suitcases have wheels.
Sincerely, Mr&Mrs A. Tasic
