Pousada in Sagres – Hotel do Infrante
Pousada de Sagres is located in the fishing village of Sagres, Algarve. This hotel has a superb position on the cliff-top overlooking Sagres fort and the lighthouse of Cape St Vicent, the most south westerly corner of Europe.

This village has an important historical and maritime significance, from where, 500 years ago, Prince D. Henrique’s caravels left to look for new countries.
The discovery of the cultural authenticity of the area and the possibility of walking on desert beaches, allow you to forget about the real world. From the fishing village comes the excellent fish and seafood that can be quietly savoured at the Pousada de Sagres hotel, a contrast to the more usual cosmopolitan bustle of the Algarve coast.
Below are some comments of guests who recently stayed in Pousada in Sagres.

Person at the reception was most helpfull and friendly.
The bedroom is very clean and convenient.
The best thing about this hotel is the view from our room.
The lobby, the library and other public rooms are tastfully firnished.
Stayed at the Pousada in July 2011 this was our third stay. Disappointed that rooms do not seem to have been refurbed and they could really do with it now I think. Ours was a bit tatty, particularly the bathroom with the grouting around the bathroom showing signs of mildew which does not make you feel like you want to take a long relaxing bath!
Breakfast was good with the exception of the coffee which was from a machine and had a very nasty taste, a lot of guests were complaining and the staff were having to make espresso in the kitchen but nothing changed in our 7 night stay!
Didn’t have dinner as last time we stayed we did and found it to be over priced and lacking in choice. I managed stupidly to leave some items in the room but they were swiftly and safely returned to me.
Think this is probably our last stay unless we were to hear that the rooms had been refurbed.
Thank you…we enjoyed the experience but think in comparison with other Pousadas, Sagres is overpriced. The modern superior rooms do not overlook the sea but appear comfortable. Those that overlook the sea (where we stayed) are poky despite the pleasing colour schemes. We wanted to taste the seafood delights for our evening meal but found no opportunity to discover the reputed pousada gourmet dishes from the sea and ended up with a virtually inedible veal steak even if the (Pousada) wine was very good !
By contrast the breakfast in the morning was a pleasure. The sparkling wine at the buffet was a surprise which was so unexpected that the rest of the day was pleasingly memorable ! We were not in a hurry to move on but perhaps also not to come back !
As this was our first visit to Portugal as well as the first (of two) poussadas that we stayed in, I have to say that we were totally charmed. The reception staff went beyond the call of duty to help make our stay as good as it could be. We were delighted to explore the area and the beautiful cliffs and beaches and didn’t find a thing to be bored about. The town is small and won’t have much to offer the traveler who is looking for action. But if you are willing/able to kick back and just ‘be’ – this is a perfect place to do it. Don’t have much to say about the food as we found other places that suited our price range. The breakfast was fine. The only thing I might have to say that could be construed as a criticism, but not intended as such, is that I would have preferred that the place had retained some of the aspects of the old monastery. It has been modernized beyond recognition as such. But that did not decrease our pleasure. Would definitely plan a return visit – and to Portugal. What a beautiful, friendly country!
We stayed in three different pousadas on our honeymoon, the Pousada do Infante being our first stop. We very much enjoyed our stay, with one exception.
We were greeted by a rather chilly reception. My wife and I had been awake for almost 48 hours by the time we arrived in Sagres, around 13:00 local time. Check-in was at 14:00. The receptionist acted as if it were a tremendous favor for her to check if our room was ready (which it was). I must note that as we stayed in October, the hotel was at less than 50% capacity.
After this, however, our stay was magnificient. Our room was well-lit and gorgeous, with a wonderful view of the Atlantic. The food in the restaurant was delicious. The spread at breakfast was incredible, and our dinners were wonderful. The view at night only increased our enjoyment.
The location of the hotel was very nice. Far enough away from the town that we did not experience any noise, but close enough that everything we wanted to do in Sagres was walkable. The fortress is less than a 15 minute walk from the pousada, and the town is even closer.
We would absolutely recommend this pousada (as well as the others we stayed at). Perhaps though, the receptionist might be given a talking to.
The breakfast is simple and delicious and the staff is wonderful. However, the quality and cleanliness of this pousada has gone seriously down hill in recent years. I stayed at this pousada eight years ago and, while most everything was the same, it was in a much better state of repair.
In all, it is over priced for the quality of lodging and we will stay at another hotel on our next visit to Sagres.
This 2 night stay, along with 2 night stay at pousada in marvao, were highpoint of our 3 week stay in portugal in september 2010. We ate at nearby beach restaurant 2nd night which was less expensive and more comfortable setting. I would not go back as there is nothing to see. HOWEVER, I would go back to Marvao and some of the other mountain pousadas. WE HAD STAYED IN SAGRES AND MARVAO POUSADAS ON OUR HONEYMOON 31 YEARS EARLIER.
We spent one night at Sagres and were very pleased. We loved the location and the small town was very nice. The rooms were a bit dated and we found the food not very good.
The people at the reception were very helpful and courteous.
On this trip we stayed at Pousadas at Sagres, Sta. Clara a Velha, Beja and Estoi. All of the Pousadas were very different and each one had its good points. The best thing about the Pousada at Sagres was its location with great views from the hotel and also from the nearby Cape and Fortress.
The breakfasts and dinners were very good and I am surprised at some of the comments from others criticising the food.
The room was a little disappointing – it seemed that, in an attempt to make it modern and “chic”, it had lost some of the comfort and charm that make Pousadas different from other hotels.
All of the staff were friendly and helpful but only one person on reception was a problem when checking in.
Overall, our stay at Sagres was very enjoyable.
We stayed at the Sagres Pousada for two nights, though we had originally booked in for three. While the building is beautiful, and our room was comfortable with a wonderful view of the sea, we found there wasn’t enough to see or do in that area for us to spend three nights. We didn’t eat dinner at the restaurant because the menu didn’t appeal to us, but the breakfasts were fine.
Cons
Dim light in room and no light for reading.
Thin walls. Could hear kid in room next door.
Smoking on terrace below the rooms rises to balcony.
Very windy, especially at night.
Not much to see or do if you don’t swim or beach or hike/bike.
Pros
Lovely building and location
Attractive room with tasteful orange and yellow color scheme.
Bright. Cheery. Moderate size room.
Fridge.
Good size private balcony.
Great views.
Breakfasts were fine
We stayed for 3 nights here and the pousada was agreeable , room clean but a bit dated in decor, was described as contempory but it fell short of that.Having said that it was a good location for visiting the furtherest parts of the algarve. I would agree with the previos comments about the food. The breakfast was good with a lot of variety to suit most people but the evening meal was poor quality and badly cooked, they definetly need a proper chef! Several meals were being sent back throughout the eveing when we ate there, needless to say we ate out for the other nights. The reception staff were helpful and courteous but not as friendly as in the other 3 pousadas we stayed in
it is a sad fact that many of the pousadas have awful food!having travelled from the top to the bottom of the country I have been in a lot of them,I loved Sagres and the special saturday night buffets are good but apart from that we always eat out.Not eated in tavira but will try on next trip, sad to here bad commments about Estoi as had thought of staying there!
vianna do castelo and santa clara are lovely again aprt from the food and santa clara only has 1 very basic restauraunt anywhere near it.I do feel sorry for the staff as they are lovely people and the food lets them as well as tourists down!
My wife and I stayed iat the Posada in Sergre several years ago and found it was in a marvelous location. Our stay was delightful and memorable in every way. We are now looking forward to returning in 2010.
Very enjoyable visit at this superb location with very helpful staff. Only problem was noisy air conditioner in room but this was resolved by the team.
We enjoyed out stay at the Pousada in Sagres. Our room was very clean and bright plus the view from our window/balcony was fabulous. The grounds are wonderful as is the case in many pousadas, which is one of the reasons we enjoy staying at these establishments.
We were part of a group of 9 who stayed 3 nights in Sagres and two nights in Estoi. We enjoyed our visit to Sagres, the pousada was comfortable, warm and welcoming and we would certainly return. The staff were charming and helpful throughout and the meals, particularly breakfast, were enjoyable.
Estoi was not as enjoyable. We had dinner on both nights and wheras the first night was enjoyable, the second was a disaster! Orders were mislaid, the amuse bouche was not served, we were not offered the choice of breads the waiting seemed interminable, and the whole event was spectacurlarly mismanaged. The only saving grace was the courtesy of the reception staff and the charm of the the young female waiting staff at the bar.
Once again we found the food awful. Good ingredients very badly cooked, also over priced. Most residents at in other resteraunts, which is shame because it made the atomosphere of the hhotel souless. The menu is too large to be able to cook the food properly. A smaller menu and better cooking needed. We have decided not to stay again.
Although we do come to portugal every year its the last time at this pousada.
The Estoi pousada, was also souless, the new rooms are too modern, more suited to the business trade than vacation trade. Not one person sat around the pool in the morning, no atmosphere, again we will not be staying there again.
Yes, you are right: we stayed at Pousada do Infante and almost
everything was perfect
We will be pleased to leave our comments on your web-page
It will be a pleasure for us to stay again in the Pousadas of Portugal
