I just loved this hotel, this location, the people, and this neighborhood. From the old wood floors and ceilings to the windows overlooking the old town and the endless side streets leading to photo shot views, I experienced firsthand what Portugal is. I also found the food in the restaurant disappointing; but feel the atmosphere made up for it. Due to construction, I spent hours trying to find the hotel's entrance; and was really annoyed to find that the hotel on a walk up street. My main suggestion would be to include driving directions to the hotel parking on the website.

Thank you for a wonderful stay

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Fantastic location in the wonderful walled city of Guimares. We went to the restaurant at the other pousada and it was magnificent.
You have to accept that this is an old style building with some limitations.

A beautiful building, well converted, overlooking the town. A pity then that we were given a room at the back when the place was pretty empty. Good restaurant and attentive service. Ideal spot for exploring the Douro by car.

What a medieval experience just staying in the village. Was concerned with the roaring nightlife that it may be noisy but the rooms didn't reflect any noise. Only found the breakfast unappealing with the plates and cutlery not clean and could have a better friendlier atmosphere.

The next time we visit Guimaraes we will probably stay at the Pousada Santa Marinha, even though it is a little far from the old town. We adored the old town at night and this Pousada is slap bang in the middle. We spent five nights in a very agreeable suite of rooms although the bathroom is starting to look a little tired with some mildly eccentric plumbing. Unfortunately, the restaurant is to be avoided. Immediately opposite the main entrance is a little old lady who sells incredibly good fresh fruit of all description. Nevertheless, at breakfast, tinned fruit is the order of the day. The staff were very friendly and very helpful with their advice on where to go and where to avoid. The bar is a non-event, devoid of character. However, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and despite its shortcomings, have fond memories. Guimaraes is to be the European city of Culture in 2012 and I suspect things will change before then.

The location of this hotel is ideal. Guimaraes is a nice town and Porto can easily be reached by train. It is a pity that part of the promises cannot be achieved. The reception on arrival was pure administrative, not kind and / or helpful. The rooms are nice, the view less and certainly not the promised view over the church steeples. This all we only could see from the restaurant. The restaurant food was bad. The bar is not a place to stay. Overall we missed a cosy atmosphere with flowers or so.
