Pousada in Arraiolos – Hotel Nossa Senhora da Assuncao
The Pousada Arraiolos Hotel, Nossa Sra. Assuncao, is an example of perfect harmony between the traditional and modern concepts of Portuguese architecture, adapting the austerity of a convent to today’s standards of comfort and well-being.
The starting point for this Pousada was the restoration of a sixteenth century convent situated in a valley in Arraiolos, a city that is world-famous for its carpets. This luxury hotel in Arraiolos is a wonderful excuse to get to know the traditional art of carpet-making.
My wife and I recently stayed at this very peaceful pousada, the first night of our five pousada passport nights. Service was excellent and the room, with two vaulted ceiling areas, was interesting and comfortable. The tiled chapel of the former convent is magnificent. Typical pousada breakfast but presented here with extra care (did not have dinner here).
We would definitely recommend this pousada to other travelers who enjoy an impressive but tranquil environment.
We arrived on the 28th of October a little late and the staff was wonderful getting us checked in . the room was very nice and comfortable. We enjoyed the area and the staff answered any questions we had.
This was a fabulous start to a 4 centre holiday in Pousadas. The staff were excellent and we had a really warm welcome. The Pousada has been recently renovated and the rooms in particular were lovely. The hotel was really quiet, which was a bit disconcerting in the big dining room, but the staff were great. The breakfast buffet was lovely, made more amusing by sharing the breakfast room with people arriving for a ’secret agent convention’!!
Our only slight concern was the quality of food in the restaurant; it wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t good either.
