Pousada in Alcacer do Sal
Pousada in Alcacer do Sal – Hotel Dom Afonso II
The Pousada Alcacer do Sal Hotel is a luxury hotel situated in the thousand year old Alcacer castle that overlooks the river Sado, which runs through a vast green valley.

At this site, with 5000 years of History, that go back to the later Neolithic period, we come across a variety of important cultural remains, such as Phoenician, Arab or even Roman.
The restaurant of the Pousada D. Afonso II in Alcacer, decorated with modern elements, surrounded by a mystic ambiance, offers fantastic meals.

A modern large comfortable room with all modern facilities made this a very comfortable stay. It was wonderfull to be able to experience this castle and explore the many features it has. The art and furnishings were just outstanding. A bonus was the very well presented museum. Its displays were surprisingly extensive and informative and the historical excavations were outstanding and surpass many that we’ve seen elsewhere. This was truely a unique experience and we would highly recommend it. The cost was not extravagant. Two meals were included and the choice of dishes, their preparation and the service generally were at a quality standard. We would certainly go back again. Also check out the local town nearby for a gentle stroll through the streets before dinner. We found it charming. As visitors from Australia this was out first introduction to Portugal outside of Lisbon and it was delightful.
The pousada was beutiful and very nice service from the staff. The rom are perferct whith very good beds.
We allways make resavasjons on the pousadas when we travlling in Portugal.
We love Portugal. Whith love from Norway.
We stopped her on a drive from Malaga to Porto. It was well located and proved to be a very charming and unspoiled town. The Pousada was well designed and very comfortable with a spectacular view over the town. Quite accidently, we chose to dine at Porto Santo across the river and had one of our best meals of a three week trip. The wet rice with seafood was great and served two. We also tried the house speciality for dessert.
Only booked into this hotel because it’s about halfway between the North and south of Portugal.
In fact it was excellent and we’d be very happy to go back there again.
Service, room, the hotel itself, and of course the food, all absolutely first class.
Couldn’t find much of interest in the town, but we were just passing through, so maybe we’ll do more homework next time we go there.
This was the third stop on our tour of Pousadas (the others being Beja and Evora).
This is a beautiful building, completly different from the other two – part old and part new which has been integrated into the castle confines. The staff were helpful and we found the restaurant to be very good, we ate there for one of the two nights. The pool area is very good and generally the grounds were very pleasant. The best bedrooms of all the Pousada we stayed in!
Alcacer is a strange place – the town is very ordinary with nothing much to offer. However, the road along the river front provides an enjoyable stroll – but why are so many building derelict?
If you want sandy beaches you can go to the Troia peninsular BUT be warned – the end of the peninsular has been spoilt by massive development – villas, high rises, hotels etc. …ghastly!
Hotel excellent. Pool facilities very good. Food good, service perhaps a little stiff. Bedroom very comfortable. Staff very friendly. Surroundings magnificient.
Fantastic in every respect, reception, room, restaurant, staff, all first class.
My wife and myself would / will reccommend Pousada Alcacer do Sal Hotel
My Portugese boyfriend brought me to this pousada upon my arrival in Portugal as a welcome and on our way to Troia. My experience was excellent and overwhelming. The pousada is beautiful and service is outstanding. I had the best white wine ever at the posada’s restaurant and will never forget it. The visit was very romantic. Thank you for making my stay so memorable and exciting.
Wellcoming, clean, comfortable beatiful with nice interesting views. Great service. Excellent.
Our experience at Pousada Alcacer do Sal Hotel was excellent. Our reservations were handled by a group of talented agents who were able to steer us to the appropriate Pousada to meet our requirements. The four days were just perfect. The staff at the front desk were very very helpful in suggesting local sites and restaurants. The purpose of our trip was to be together and away from everything to be together. Every aspect of our trip was just wonderful.
