What a wonderful place to spend Hallowe'en Night--Yes we stayed in this pousada on October 31st, 2011! We felt like we had travelled back in time to the 12th century. We were in awe of the wonderful restoration that had been done to this building--now with all the modern conveniences but still giving the ambience of a very old monastery. We found the staff most welcoming and accommodating. We especially enjoyed the view from every window which overlooked a peaceful cloister. This was a memorable overnight stay nearing the end of our Fall vacation in northern Portugal.

My wife and I stayed at the Pousada de Estoi for two nights in late October 2011.
This is not your standard multi national hotel chain .It is unique in character and setting.

We agree with the positive comments from the other guests

The hotel location - accomodation - dining and refurbishment were all to a high standard
The hotel staff were helpful and friendly from the reception staff to the
restaurant
For those seeking somewhere different to spend a couple of nights it ticks the box.

We stayed 3 nights (first week of November) and is was a nice experience to be there. The staff was friendly and the dinners in the great restaurant were good. The pool was closed in this period so we can't say anything about that facility. Breakfast was oke but not very variated but that perhaps because it was low season with only a few guests at the time.

we enjoyed 5 nights at the Hotel Palacio do Freixo, Pousada in Porto from 12 November to 16 November 2011, and thoroughly enjoyed the stay. The reception was very good, particularly after a long drive and a bit of frustration in finding the Pousada. The reception immediately relaxed us and we knew we were going to enjoy the stay if the service was like that. And it was, the bar service, the evening meal were always good service and the evening meal was of good variety and quality, wines were good. Breakfast was a great range of quality food. We had upgraded to a river side room and enjoyed the view of the Douro. The room size and facilities were good. Staff at all levels were highly professional and always of assistance, of great importance for us traveling in a foreign country with no local language. We possibly stayed a little too long for the region, our intention was to base there and see the surrounding sights. But the extra stay in the Hotel Palacio do Freixo enabled us to relax and enjoy their facilities. Top marks and highly recommended.

I just loved this hotel, this location, the people, and this neighborhood. From the old wood floors and ceilings to the windows overlooking the old town and the endless side streets leading to photo shot views, I experienced firsthand what Portugal is. I also found the food in the restaurant disappointing; but feel the atmosphere made up for it. Due to construction, I spent hours trying to find the hotel's entrance; and was really annoyed to find that the hotel on a walk up street. My main suggestion would be to include driving directions to the hotel parking on the website.

Thank you for a wonderful stay

Being the Pousada fans that we are , it was exciting to stay in a castle ! The staff were warm and helpful and we found the accommodation comfortable . ALthough the bedroom was small, the view was magnificent from the castle walls overlooking the courtyard. The bed was very comfortable for sleeping and yes the bathroom was old but hey you are afterall in a castle !!! It was fine, truly . Memorable meal in the dining room, breakfast standard pousada fare but tasty. Loved the peacocks who posed for pictures and were not fearful of humans. Nice grounds to explore with the fresh scent of orange trees. Quaint village outside with breathtaking scenery of the alentejo. A beautiful spot to stay with plans to return. It was great to experience the countryside and the wonderful local people only to happy to help with a smile ! Loved it and kudos to all the helpful staff.

We renewed our acquaintance with the Pousada at Marvao recently. Previously we had visited in the late 1970's. Everything about our latest experience was excellent with one very big exception, the food & wine at Dinner. The menu was poor and the preparation / ingredients of the dishes we chose was even more so. The choice of wine was also poor and well overpriced. Our exposure to Portugal is wide, varied and spans many years so we do have a good idea of what standards should be. We love Portuguese cuisine so you'll understand our disappointment at Dinner.

It was very hot for October (30c+), so the air conditioning did seem to struggle a bit. Also there was a mix up over a restaurant bill.
Apart from that we enjoyed our stay and found the staff keen to help.

We thoroughly enjoyed our overnight stay in Pousada Monte St. Luiza in late October. The location of this hotel is awesome, right at the top of the mountain with amazing views in all directions. We were immediately made to feel welcome on arrival followed by instant help with our luggage. The whole building has been very tastefully restored to its early 1900's grandeur. We thought the bar and lounge area were so inviting--just wanted to relax on the comfy, colourful sofas! The dining room, closeby but in a completely different colour scheme was equally inviting. We especially loved the window blinds that looked very elegant at dinner but then took on a different and less formal look at breakfast--certainly a sign of a good interior decorator. At dinner we especially enjoyed meeting Luis who is a most attentive waiter at dinner but also was so informative about the area which we would be driving the next day. We found it amazing to have such a significant archeological site as Ruinas da Cidade Velha nearly in the grounds of the Pousada. As well we spent time touring the Temple of the Sacred Heart Basilica and took many photographs from the Church courtyard. All in all Pousada Monte St. Luiza was a wonderful place to stay and we just wished we could have spent longer there.

This was our second stay at the Pousada separated by 20 years. Not much had changed There was the same beautiful location and it's wonderful picturesque town. and the marvelous pousada with it's inimitable charm friendly staff and excellent service. there was nothing at all to complain about. The whole experience was as enjoyable as it was those many years ago
